Ever wonder what you really need to survive as a human being? That is, of course, after you have stripped away all the other luxuries and other BS. Like not considering all the things that make you comfortable. Not discussing or figuring out how to avoid diseases or injuries. Or even what makes you thrive in life. Luckily, you don’t need to know a lot of information on this point. Oxygen is in abundant and is not running out any time soon. But if it does, then it might be safe to say that the human population will be screwed as we know it. Oxygen is a fundamental need in humankind’s survival. There is no back channel to it. Either you have it and are breathing well, or you don’t and are about to die.

  1. Water

The degree with which water is crucial in humankind’s survival can never be stressed enough. People always feel the urge to drink a lot of water every day. Not to mention the persistent urge to want to procure more of it for the long haul. And you can notice this in the way people tend to want to live near large or continuous water supply areas with natural fresh water. Or the way they can adapt in the areas scarce in water supply by stockpiling a ton of the stuff. At the end of the day, you may want to do both, which is recommended. But first, you may want to pick one option first and work on how you can make it a success. Humans need to consume about half a gallon of water every day to avoid dehydration from kicking in. And that is the reason why it is best to always have a water plan in case your taps run completely dry for a significant amount of time.

  1. Food

Okay, in as much as you can go for quite a while without feeling hungry or without food, at some point, you will need to replace the calories that you expend as your body burns the ones in store. Otherwise, you stand a chance of starving and possibly dying. Sufficient studies and research have shown that people can go for days, even weeks, without eating anything. But then again, math always wins. As you have to consume food to replenish the calories that your body utilizes.

In this situation, people adapt by either stocking a lot of foodstuffs that have long shelf lives or growing the foods themselves. In this case, it is also wise to do both if you can. Just in case one fails along the way.

  1. Shelter

As long as you can keep the harsh weather conditions like severe rains and gushing winds off of you, you are all good. Human beings, like other animals, will always want to live in a comfortable environment that suits them. Some basic stockpiled fuel like firewood can also come in handy when looking to stay or keep warm during the frigid nights. This is an important human basic survival need. It may not matter the kind of shelter you have. But as long as you have somewhere to hide your head and call home even when push comes to shove.

  1. Self-defense

Humans have been known to default to the dog eat dog kind of mentality when they are desperate. At the end of the day, it will be ‘every man for himself’ when situations get tough. So, if you don’t have any defensive weapons or skills, then you will basically be at the mercy of the people with the killer instinct mentality. As a human being, it is, therefore, only natural that you always device yourself a self-defense plan and ensure you know how to use it.
